396:  Entrepreneurship in the Age of AI Challenges with Chris Wright

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Chris Wright.  We’ve had multiple guests on the show talking about the growth of AI and the benefits of it, but what about the potential downsides?  In a world where AI can create videos and deep fakes of anyone in seconds or access individual’s data from social platforms and other sources and use it: how do you protect yourself and keep control of your data, personal information, and other valuable online assets?  Those are exactly the questions I had been asking myself when I was introduced to Chris Wright.

Chris is a former US Army attack helicopter pilot, entrepreneur, and founder of the AI Trust Council.  The AITC is building a pro-human social networking platform that helps users distinguish real from fake online. Its goal is to give users control of their meta data to create passive income and provide a mechanism to help steer the direction of A.I.

The council aims to ensure humans are empowered with the tools necessary to establish trust to build a pro human future.  I think this is one of the most important topics for entrepreneurs to understand and find opportunity in over the next decade and Chris is on the bleeding edge, so I asked him on the discuss how we can not only protect ourselves, but also maximize our potential in the age of AI.

Show Notes

Chris served in the military for several years, contracting over the Middle East, which exposed him to the evolution of AI warfare and drone technology.  He transitioned to civilian life and started a logistics company in Northern California, where he observed firsthand the impact of AI on management, particularly through systems like Netrodyne camera systems.  He attended an early Chat GPT conference in Las Vegas, which solidified his awareness of AI's transformative potential in business and society.  Chris Identified a lack of leadership, regulation, and safety measures in the AI space, prompting him to prioritize pro-human values in AI development.

How do you see the state of AI now? Where are we? Where are we going? And what should we be preparing for?
  • Chris shares the rapid advancements in AI technology, particularly with big tech companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google investing heavily in AGI (artificial general intelligence).
  • Multimodal technologies are emerging, combining text, video, audio, logic, and reasoning into all-in-one systems, surpassing earlier platforms.
  • Some engineers claim to have achieved AGI, though it's not yet public due to concerns about societal readiness.

What's the scariest thing for you as you see it?
  • The potential dangers of AGI, including the creation of AI avatars with extensive situational awareness, leading to ethical and societal implications.
  • He talks about military applications of AI, citing examples like Israel's AI targeting system, Gospel, and the autonomy of drones in combat, underscoring the urgency of addressing AI's impact.

What do we do? How do we prepare and handle this? And what does entrepreneurs should we be thinking of?
  • There is a large need for education and the development of pro-human ethics around AI.  We must prepare for this future and take into account the ethical consideration in AI development.
  • AI development is an “arms race” and the potential consequences of unregulated AI advancement are not even being considered.  Entrepreneurs and individuals need to champion governance and ethical frameworks.

A lot of people don't even know what's happening in China and what life is like due to the AI they have implemented into surveillance of every day life.  What should be on the lookout for from China coming here?
  • The social credit system in China where citizens are monitored and given scores based on their actions, affecting their access to societal privileges like transportation and travel.
  • There is a lack of awareness among Americans about such systems and the transparency of discussions led by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on similar topics at events like Davos.

What can we be doing as individuals?
  • Realize that there is a potential loss of humanity in the face of advancing AI technologies.
  • Even the transformative impact of upcoming robotics is not considered and the need for societal participation is key to shaping the future.
  • We must develop ethical frameworks to guide AI development.

Where's the opportunity then for entrepreneurs in all of this?
  • The AI Trust Council differentiates between real and fake content online through a network of trusted individuals.
  • It is a blockchain-based platform where individuals can stake crypto to conduct polls and verify the authenticity of information.
  • There is a potential collapse of advertising and the emergence of a market for trustworthy content and influencers.  Entrepreneurs should be looking at how they can tap into these opportunities.

Bitcoin, does it survive if there is a CBDC that comes into effect?
  • It will be impacted, but it can survive.
  • Depending on how CBDC is implemented and the control put in place, Bitcoin may be the alternative and if so, governments will try to stop it.

Regulation of AI?  Will it happen?
  • Chris talks his concern about the vulnerability of AI to regulation, citing the example of XRP and its regulation-induced manipulation. He predicts imminent regulation due to the perceived risks associated with AI, highlighting the potential for AI disruptions to serve as catalysts for the adoption of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
  • AI-related disruptions, akin to viruses, could lead to power outages, potentially prompting a reset of the financial system and the emergence of a new world order desired by bankers.

What lessons did you take from that experience that you feel have helped you succeed as an entrepreneur?
  • Chris reflects on his military experience as an army attack chopper pilot, getting the exposure to diverse cultures and contracting opportunities that shaped his entrepreneurial journey.
  • There is fundamental goodness of humanity and the universal desire for protection and care.
  • We must incorporate these values into technology development.
  • Understanding human behavior and societal dynamics is crucial for entrepreneurs and leaders, ultimately guiding the creation of technology aligned with fundamental human values.
