Special Episode with Dave Lukas431: The Biblical Story of Joseph, 10 Powerful Lessons for Entrepreneurial Growth
This is another special episode and I got the idea of it from a recent service at our church, Worthington Christian Church here in Ohio. Now before you turn this off or stop watching, I am not going to be teaching a sermon to you and pushing the Bible down your throat, but as I listened to this message which was about the 10 Principles learned from the Story of Joseph in Genesis, I could not help but think about how much the 10 principles not only are useful in life, but incredibly important for success in entrepreneurship. In fact, the message was so good that I am actually going to play pastor Austin Seevers delivering it here in a minute, but first I was to set the stage a little. If you don’t know the story of Joseph from Genesis. Joseph was one of 12 brothers, whose father was Jacob. Now, Jacob was no ordinary person. He was the grandson of Abraham, to whom God first promised that his descendants would become a great nation, inherit the land of Canaan, and be a blessing to all nations. He was kind of a big deal. And Joseph was his favorite son of the 12. In fact, he was favored so much that his brothers jealously caused them to first try to kill him, but later sell him into slavery. And then sold again to the Pharoah in Egypt with whom he ended up gaining favor and rising to be the 2nd most powerful person in Egypt only to meet his brothers again years later in a time of need. It is through this story the 10 lessons are explained, so I am going to let Austin go through the detail and lessons for you and then below I share how they relate to running a business and being an entrepreneur. Show Notes1. Hurt people hurt people
In business, you’ll encounter critics or competitors who lash out, often because of their own pain or insecurity. Understanding this helps you respond with grace rather than taking it personally. Address issues professionally and move forward. 2. It's okay to have an emotional response to emotional hurt When setbacks or betrayals happen, it’s natural to feel hurt. Like Joseph, who wept when seeing his brothers, allow yourself to process emotions—but don’t let them dictate your actions. Emotional intelligence is about channeling those feelings productively. 3. We decide in private how to respond in public Joseph carefully planned his responses to his brothers. As an entrepreneur, your private decision-making determines your public leadership. Take time to strategize and choose responses that align with your values and goals. 4. Nothing good comes from fighting fire with fire Joseph could have sought revenge but chose forgiveness instead. In business, retaliating against critics or competitors only escalates conflict. Rise above and focus on building rather than tearing down. 5. Forgiveness often requires proximity Joseph’s reconciliation happened face-to-face with his brothers. In business, resolving conflicts or mending relationships often requires direct, open communication. Proximity builds understanding and trust. 6. Forgiveness can be one-sided Sometimes, the people who wrong you won’t apologize. Forgive them anyway. Holding onto grudges drains your energy—energy better spent growing your business and pursuing your purpose. 7. If we avenge people for wrongdoings, we undermine the work of transformative grace Joseph trusted God’s bigger plan, even in his suffering. In business, focus on the long-term vision instead of getting bogged down in petty battles. Let grace—not vengeance—guide your leadership. 8. Our pain often becomes our purpose Joseph’s journey through betrayal and suffering prepared him to save nations during a famine. Similarly, your struggles as an entrepreneur can shape your mission and help you build something impactful. 9. Forgiveness takes time Don’t rush the process of healing or reconciliation. Whether it’s a business fallout or a partnership gone wrong, give yourself time to work through it thoughtfully and genuinely. 10. Forgiveness rewrites our story Joseph’s forgiveness turned a story of betrayal into one of redemption. As an entrepreneur, when you forgive—yourself, your team, or others—you reclaim control over the narrative and build a culture of growth and grace. Joseph’s life is a masterclass in leadership, emotional resilience, and purpose. In fact, you could say Joseph was a Misfit for doing the exact opposite of what most people in his situation would have done. As entrepreneurs, let’s embrace these lessons to lead with grace, build with purpose, and overcome with resilience—just like Joseph did. Here’s to your success! Best Quote

Misfit Entrepreneurs!
I want to tell you about an incredible resource that will have tremendous impact on your business and your revenue. I have used this solution in multiple businesses and it has made an incredible difference! Let me start by asking you something. “Do you know how much it costs your business when just one salesperson doesn’t step up to deliver? Do you really know?” The cost can easily exceed six figures for just one bad hire – not just from the time, effort, and resources in hiring, but from the lost business and downtime as well. And the last thing any growing business can afford is to have a failed hire, especially in sales, the revenue driver for the company. But, what if there was a way to know someone checked all the boxes of a great sales hunter and closer before you ever hired them? That’s the solution I’ve found from a company called SalesDrive. They have created a solution called DriveTest®. A powerful hiring tool that separates high-performance salespeople from pretenders by measuring the most critical personality trait needed for success in sales: Drive. Drive is composed of three non-teachable traits shared by all top producers: Need for Achievement, Competitiveness, and Optimism. And knowing who has Drive before the interview dramatically increases your chances of selecting salespeople who will produce for you, while avoiding those costly bad hires. I’ve used the solution and it works. In fact, it works so well, I have referred them to every company I work with. And they created a special offer so you can use them as well, for FREE. You can Get a free DriveTest® assessment today at www.MisfitEntrepreneur/SalesDrive Misfits,
