Show Notes

Britt grew up in a family deeply entrenched in the self-help and personal development world, even before it became a mainstream concept. Her father, Morty Lefkoe, was a renowned guru in the self-help space, and Britt was immersed in a mindset-focused environment from a very young age. She shares a pivotal moment in kindergarten when she questioned whether her teacher liked her, and her father responded by asking what meaning she was assigning to the teacher's behavior. This interaction exemplified the core lesson she learned early on: that events do not create experiences; rather, the meanings we assign to events shape our experiences. As she grew older, Britt mastered her father's methodologies and eventually developed her own intellectual property, bringing unique insights to her work with clients, ranging from Fortune 10 companies to high-achieving entrepreneurs. Today, she continues to help people identify their blind spots and build unwavering confidence in themselves and their businesses.

You talk a lot about unlearning to reach success. Explain.
  • Learning new skills requires repetition and practice, but unlearning limiting beliefs can provide immediate breakthroughs.
  • The goal is not to gather more information but to dismantle false beliefs that hinder growth.
  • Breaking existing neural pathways opens up infinite possibilities, allowing for new, expansive thinking.
  • Instead of focusing on learning how to not procrastinate or how to delegate, she suggests unlearning the beliefs that prevent effective delegation or prompt procrastination.
  • The key is to shift from a mindset that blocks natural curiosity and creativity to one that embraces experimentation and mistakes as part of the growth process.

How do we effectively fix blind spots in our minds?
  • Commitment to recognizing and addressing limiting stories is crucial for personal development.
  • Britt shares a practical tool involving three questions to shift from a limiting to an expansive mindset:
    • If the opposite of the limiting belief were true, where would you start?
    • How would your approach differ if the task were easy and quick?
    • Who could you ask for help to achieve this?
  • These questions help re-engage the prefrontal cortex, enabling higher-level thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • Britt also highlights the value of hiring a coach to guide this process for those who can invest in it.

Talk to us about neuroscience and how our minds work.
  • Britt explains the roles of the prefrontal cortex (responsible for logic, reason, and planning) and the amygdala (the emotional brain).
  • Decisions are primarily driven by the amygdala, with belief systems formed by age seven significantly influencing our behaviors.
  • The brain’s primary goal is safety, often conflating emotional harmony with physical safety, leading to avoidance of conflict and risk.
  • Memory is malleable, with no single storage location in the brain, allowing us to reshape our past experiences and beliefs through neuroplasticity.
  • Understanding these principles empowers individuals to change their relationship with their memories and beliefs, fostering a more supportive and empowering mindset.

How do I change the beliefs to have the results I want?
  • Change can be easy and rapid when approached correctly.
  • Identifying the origins of limiting beliefs and replacing them with empowering stories is crucial.
  • Change requires altering feelings, not just thoughts, since feelings drive behaviors.
  • For example, reframing a critical parent's influence into understanding that their perspective was based on their environment, not the child’s potential, can shift one's relationship with mistakes and achievements.
  • Through visualization and alternative interpretations, individuals can rewire their neural pathways, leading to more empowered and creative thinking.

What are two to three of the best lessons you've learned as an entrepreneur?
  • Britt learned that she doesn’t have to change who she is to be successful; instead, focusing on her strengths and genius zone has been key.
  • Having values alignment in all aspects of business, from client relationships to partnerships, ensuring long-term success and fulfillment is very important.
  • Trusting the right people and building values-aligned partnerships have been critical lessons, helping her avoid early mistakes and fostering supportive, growth-oriented relationships.

Have you noticed any patterns or traits among top performers?
  • Negative patterns:
    • Tying self-worth to achievements, leading to perpetual dissatisfaction.
    • Need for control and belief in a single right way to do things, stifling creativity and innovation.
    • Being busy for the sake of feeling important, which hinders effective decision-making.
  • Positive traits:
    • Embracing creativity and leaning into unique approaches to problem-solving.
    • Unwavering commitment to goals, even if it means facing discomfort and failure.
    • Willingness to pivot and adapt goals based on what’s most effective and aligned with long-term success.
    • Maintaining a balance between perseverance and the ability to reassess and shift strategies as needed.

Best Quote

  • You cannot change your feelings with thoughts; you can only change a feeling with a feeling.
